Every student must be respected as an individual, each with different tastes, learning styles, and demeanor. Any methodology that does not account for this detracts from their experience.

Knowledge of musical fundamentals, practice techniques and a healthy physical attitude toward the instrument are of primary importance, forming a foundation that the student can build upon.

The instructor must present these basic materials to the student while instilling confidence. The process should become an experience that is governed more and more by the student with the teacher acting only as an informed guide. As Thomas Mann famously said, "The teacher is the personified conscience of the pupil."

There are as many philosophies of music as there are people in the world. Uncover your own by learning to play the piano, read music and understand music theory. The music of the masters is a portal for self-discovery.
